Septic Systems Problems and How To Repair Them
Before repairing any septic system, you should first know all its parts and how it works. Septic tank fails mostly when the septic tank enzymes and the septic bacteria are killed in the normal aerobic process or by any strong medications or harsh cleaning chemicals used for daily chores. Situations such as faulty septic filters, septic tank pumps, and aerators allow the sludge in the septic tank to escape thereafter, overloading drain field of the septic tank with solids that cause an imbalance of the bio-mat.
Some of the problems associated with the septic tank are:

- Slow or sluggish flushing of drains or toilets.
- Some wet spots over the septic tank.
These problems may cause costly repairs, messy clean-ups or inconvenient odours and smell.

1. Improperly treated solid and sludge waste leaving a septic tank:
If the septic system is clogged with plastics or other non-biodegradable solid waste such as cigarette butt, disposable dippers, or sanitary napkins, then you should look forward to replacing your drain field.
Most septic problems result from biodegradable solid waste that builds up to an extent where drain field cannot handle water volume entering the system. This should be corrected to increase the lifespan of your drain field. The aim of repairing a damaged septic system is to get rid of as much solid waste in the drainage system of the septic as possible.
2. Grease coating as a result of much grease allowed in the septic system:
Grease is a major problem for a majority of septic tanks, plumbing, and drain fields. Areas around a rural restaurant, RV parks and federal campgrounds or the beach campground could be commonly affected by grease clogging. Grease can easily escape septic tanks and accumulate in the drain field after it has cooled off and solidified. This accumulation is commonly called the grease capping and it prevents the oxygen from getting into the bio mat. You should use grease eating bacteria and a special blend of enzymes to get rid of this grease.
3. Failure to get enough cleaning or adequate septic tank pump outs
This is repairable at a reasonable price. A black slime that has accumulated sulphite should be removed and the bio mat issue solved. For better results use drain field treatments and pressure getting types of equipment. Once you destroy the black slime, you can attain a naturally biological balance for your system.
4. Compacted soil or broken drain field piping:
Compacted soils should be fixed using special equipment like the soil fractures. They will allow more oxygen to get to the drain field. Also, know where the drain field and the septic tank are so that you do not build around that region. These drain fields should be constructed in a way to allow evaporation thus you should avoid building non-porous surfaces however you can plant grass around it.
5. When a septic system is clogged by tree roots:
Some trees, for example, the Willow sends their roots in all directions and for long distances in search of water. Your drain field and the septic system could be their perfect place to get all the nutrients and water they need. You can use root cutting equipment or apply chemicals that kill the roots.
